New Fishing Camp Board Game Hooks Kids on Angling

Kids can talk fishing even when they’re not outdoors, thanks to a new fishing camp board game designed to keep them hooked on the sport and yearn to get outside and try it themselves.

Designed by avid outdoorsman Tim Paczesny, who grew up at his family’s log cabin resort in Northern Michigan and has two kids of his own, Fishing Camp is the newest outdoors-themed game being introduced by Education Outdoors, and is a recipient of The Toy Man® Seal of Approval. The object: be the first boat back to the docks by answering fishing trivia questions correctly.

“I wanted to create a way to share my knowledge of the outdoors with both my children and city friends,” he says. “So I came up with the idea of creating games that would be able to teach families about the outdoors through trivia questions and fun facts.”

Kids-Fishing Camp boxTo play Fishing Camp, each player rolls the dice and moves his or her boat that number of spaces forward on the board. If the boat stops on a green lily pad the die is passed to the next player, but if the boat stops on a yellow lily pad the player draws a Fishing Camp trivia card. If the player answers the question on the card correctly, he or she rolls again.

Half of the trivia cards in the deck feature images of types of fish on them. If a player draws a fish card and answers the question about the fish correctly, he or she keeps the card. A player may “catch” 5 fish per turn before having to throw one back. Also, some of the Fishing Camp trivia cards have a special GPS icon on them. If a player draws a GPS card and answers the question on the card correctly, he or she is allowed to take a shortcut to the docks.

Players have to try and avoid landing on a “Go To Shore Lunch Island” spot during their turn. If their boat does have to go to shore, the player reads a Fishing Camp fun fact for all to hear and then the turn ends. The first player to park their boat back at the docks with a fish on board is declared the winner of the game.

Fishing Camp is rated for ages 4 an up and can be played by 2-8 people. Fishing Camp retails for $24.99. The game can be purchased at
